Mangrove Forest along the West Coast of India are Classified as Vulnerable

The mangrove forests along the western coast of India and Pakistan have been classified as vulnerable. This classification is based on their current state and the anticipated deterioration they may face in the coming years. The report, prepared by Waqar Ahmed, Shalini Dhyani and Ena L Suárez, shows Gujarat as one of the states that has witnessed a growth in mangrove cover. The largest spatial expansion was reported from Gujarat, followed by Maharashtra. “In general, the data show a trend of long-term growth, particularly in the category of sparse mangrove forests,” the report states.
